His skills in this area were well known and people regularly brought their time-pieces to him to be repaired. He was a quiet man who never wanted fuss of any kind in his life. His pastimes were simple. He was a very keen darts player and his prowess in the game was matched by few. He was also an excellent card player and had a particular fondness for the game of 25. John Joe had excellent DIY skills, some of which often came in handy in his role as part-time fireman in Westport for many years.
