The overall tone/mood of the poem is a very sad and ominous and angry. It is telling a vary sad and depressing story. These lines really spoke to me because even though african americans went through so many horrible times they are still able to stand up for what they believe in and in a way fight back,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], here it seems that Langston Hughes is mocking the poeple who hung the african americans and that everyone can see through your stupid excuses.
