Reportedly, China Mobile wanted a piece of Apple's app store revenues to make a deal happen and Apple said no to this unreasonable request. So,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sounds like the government has taken to various underhanded tactics to try and damage Apple. The company, which raised $1.2B from investors and tapped nearly $200M in government loans,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], has only around $30M in cash remaining. About 160 workers were fired at a Friday morning meeting at its Anaheim, Calif.,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], headquarters, and were told that the company couldn't afford to give them severance payments. Agreed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], get ALL manufacturing out of China. Imagine if the current administration could work out a special deal with Apple and other large employers whereby they could repatriate cash without tax,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], get special tax breaks to build manufacturing in the US and then the manufacturers would agree to move good paying jobs to the US. Would be a huge marketing push for Apple,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], generate good jobs here and stick it to China. This would take some effort and thought to get all the details right but the benefits to the US would be significant while hurting the Chinese.
Mar 29 11:27 AMI came across this article through Yahoo finance and decided to register to get some info from supporters here. I was a long in Ebix but sold back in November when the last piece of bad news hit. I see several warning signs with this stock still. 1) it seems very odd to me that all but one Director of this company is based in Switzerland. I follow a bunch of US companies and I have never seen a US company with a board composition like Ebix. A conspiracy theorist would say that the Board construct is meant to shield the members from any shareholder liabilities since most of the board members are Swis. Thouhgts?2) Probably most important to me is the fact that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], expect for Robin Raina, the management team has literally ZERO equity in this company. Based on the most recent proxy filing, only Leon D'apice has unexercised options while other executives have VERY small amounts of restricted stock. There are no other publicly held technology companies that have this small level of insider ownership. Why would I invest in Ebix when, other than Raina, no other named executive has any "skin in the game".? It's not like these guys are being paid particularly well in cash compensation so, to me,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this tells me to stay away. Lastly, I also find it odd that Ebix's website lists "SEC filings" as a section but that section only has a small number of Ebix's filings (no proxies for instance). I have listened to Dan Dicker for 4 years now and have made a lot of many on his calls; not always right but the guy knows his stuff. I think Ward is just dumping his shares pressuring the stock and not giving a crap about the stock price (the guy has made a fortune of our backs in the past). Once Ward's selling is done and TPG can begin operating the business, I'm of the opinion that things will revert to the uptrend. May not be a quick spike but,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], long term, I believe there is value in SD's properties.
Apr 4 05:28 PMOne of the shippers that is worth some speculative capital at $3/share in GNK. They have a pretty modern fleet and per their latest 10K, their liquidity seems adequate to get them through to when rates tick up.
